Wireless Network Connection Tutorial

Wireless networking tutorial for: Windows XP, using the built in Windows XP wireless configuration.

  • If you haven't already done so, come by the Anthro IT office in Young 326, and get your wireless account activated/reactivated for the current quarter.

  • Right click your wireless network connection icon in the task bar
  • Select view available wireless network connections
  • viewAvailableNets

  • Left click 'change advanced settings' (left side of the window at the bottom of the list)
  • wirelessNetworks

  • Left click the tab 'wireless networks'
  • look in your preferred networks list,
  • if AnthroNet is already in the list, select it and click 'remove'
  • now click 'add'

  • click the association tab
  • the values should be as follows:
  • wirelessNetworkProperties

  • click the authentication tab
  • the values should be as follows
  • next, click properties
  • authentication

  • the values should be as follows:
  • next, click configure
  • EAPproperties

  • make sure 'automatically use my Windows logon name and password' is NOT CHECKED

  • click ok on all 4 of the wireless configuration windows we opened
  • configuration is done!

  • a balloon should now pop up saying 'click here to select a certificate or other credentials for the connection to the network AnthroNet' 
  • left click the balloon

  • under user name and password enter your kerberos credentials
  • under logon domain put 'ANTHROP'
  • click ok

  • you should now be connected to the anthropology wireless network

Windows 7 Users

Additional Step Required

 

1) Click 'Advanced Settings' from the security tab

2) Check 'Specify Authentication mode'

3) select 'User Authentication'

4) click 'Replace credentials'

5) provide anthropology username and wireless password that was set previously
